They say looks don’t matter … well, I say they are wrong. I mean I would totally push over any other drink if someone gave me this gorgeous blue latte. And here’s the other thing .. it smells divine and is super healthy.

The blue, to begin with, is what is captivating isn’t it. This luminous color comes from the beautiful butterfly pea flower.

Like green tea, Butterfly Pea Flower tea is full of potent antioxidants and has even been studied for its ability to help protect the skin against premature aging. In traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, it has been consumed for centuries as a memory enhancer, brain booster, anti-stress, anti-inflammatory, eyesight improver, aphrodisiac, nootropic, antiasthmatic, and calmative agent. When the dried flowers and steeped in hot water they release a mesmerizing deep blue colour.

And that combined with some fragrant Lavender, which is great not only for its aromatics but also because it is probably the best calming tea I know. It is good for so many more reasons, like it treats Insomnia, works as an Antiseptic, maintains Cardiovascular Health, treats Indigestion, is an Anti-Inflammatory Agent, works as a Detoxifier and improves Respiratory Health.

A cup of latte made with these two miracle flowers is just about the best latte you can nurture your body with.

I chose to make this latte with Almond Milk, you can use any plant-based milk of your choice. I also prefer to make this without a sweetener, the nut milk tends to have its natural sweetness, and any other sweetness alters the natural fragrance and flavour, but that’s just me, you can add maple syrup or honey or any sweetener of choice.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of Almond Milk ( or any plant-based milk )
  • 2 tbsp dried Butterfly Pea Flowers
  • 2 tsp dried Lavender Flowers
  • 1/2 water
  • Sweetener of choice
  • dried rose petals for garnish

In a small saucepan, heat the water and add the dried flowers. Bring to a gentle boil and let it simmer for a minute. Cover and let the flowers steep for 5 mins. This would have extracted all the colour and benefits from the flowers. Now add the milk and sweetener and bring to a boil. And strain all of it. With a frother, froth the milk and pour into cups.

Top with dried Rose petals and serve hot.
