What are your morning rituals, what are the things you do every morning ? I feel as we get older, our mornings become more sacred to us. Besides the routine chores, that you can’t escape, there are things now that I like to do in the mornings every single day. It like its got its beautiful flow, wake up the same time everyday, prayers, 10 mins meditation, warm water lime, early breakfast, kids school routine, coffee, gym … followed by the rest of the day. And if you take one thing out of the routine, the morning feels kinda weird. Though I have to say I do look forward most to the coffee part of the day. Twice infact. The thing is Coffee is constant, but how I take my coffee isn’t. Depending on the weather, mood, body needs and stock at hand, it changes quite regularly. Most mornings its black, either ground coffee in a French Press or Turkish coffee made in the Turkish pot; but on weekends I tend to play with it a little, or on a day like today, when I’m feeling a little knocked out, and need that little extra something.
Never being fond of milk, makes you explore other options and discovering coconut milk to go with your coffee is a game changer altogether. I can’t remember how long ago this happened, but its got to be on one of my Asian holidays by the beach … the young coconut milk is just so divine there. And paired with coffee its just one of those “roll your head back and moan” moments at every sip. Hot and cold both are magical.
- a strong brew of your favourite coffee – 1 (or 1/2 cup more depending on how strong you like it )
- coconut milk – 2 -3 cups ( adjust to your liking )
- maple syrup / coconut sugar ( choice of sweetener ) – to taste
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
You could freeze the coffee in an ice tray the night before, or simply chill the coffee. Both work and taste just fine.
Pour the coffee / cubes in a glass, top with sweetener and salt. Top with coconut milk and give it a good stir,
The quality of coffee and coconut milk will decide how great your coffee tastes.
